One Seed at a Time

Improving health by teaching families to grow their own food

Greetings from Central Virginia!

I am a high school student who is committed to learn and share knowledge and ideas about the relationship bewwen our food, our bodies, and our mind. My journey began at local food banks, where I noticed a startling trend: the primary options for those in need were non-perishables laden with preservatives. Realizing that "full stomachs" aren't the same as "nourished bodies," I decided to leverage my five years of experience with the Minority and Veteran Farmers of Piedmont to make a change.

By bridging the gap between local agricultural expertise and the families who need it most, I help neighbors in Culpeper and the surrounding Piedmont region reclaim control over their health and their food supply.

Computer Screen Analysis

In this project, I bred chickens to combine traits like high egg production and unique feather types. I oversaw full incubation cycles, adjusting temperature and humidity, candling eggs to track growth, and assisting hatches to ensure chick survival. By recording traits across generations, I refined breeding choices to achieve consistent, desirable results.

The Neural Mechanisms of Pain and Its Modulation by Psychological Factors

This paper explains how emotional distress and mental health issues change the way the brain processes pain. It brings together research from neuroscience and psychology to show that stress and mood shifts can heighten pain signals and weaken the brain’s ability to regulate them. By outlining these patterns, the paper argues that pain should be treated through both emotional and physical care, not just medical interventions.
